Bon Jovi is now a country band

I don't care enough to actually check the news about this but I heard that they were going country. Of course, by going "country" I mean that they are going to begin selling their music in a different bin, play their songs on different radio stations, and become NASCAR fans. These guys would do really well if they would begin covering some of the old country songs instead of writing their own. They are stuck in that mode of quoting retail workers and fast food employees by writing songs like "Have A Nice Day".

Patsy, Johnny, Willie, Waylon and Bob Wills are all rolling in their graves. Of course, the Willie I am referring to is "Boxcar Willie".

Don't Be So Hard On The SnowBoarder

"It's not as if she won the silver as much as she lost the gold."

These are the words of one of the commentators after the American Women's Snowboarder fell and took the silver medal instead of the gold which she was well on her way to winning. Sure. She was showing off by grabbing her board in mid-air at the last jump of the snowboardcross. She was way ahead and she did "lose" the gold. But, cut her some slack. She is a snowboarder. That is what they do. It wouldn't be snowboarding if there wasn't some of that going on anyway.

She simply likes her sport more than she likes the Olympics.

My New Favorite Sport Is...

...Snowboard Cross.

What a cool sport. It is a combination of surfing, rollerball, and ski tag. Lots of fun!

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that women are allowed to compete in the skeleton races where they skid, at outrageous speeds, headlong down an icey gulley but are not allowed to ski jump?

Now I am a soccer mom

My hats are off to you ladies. If your children are in school, and maybe even if their not, you are on the road constantly. Hours a week are spent taking children to and from school, to and from sports practices, to and from music lessons, to and from friends houses, to and from, to and from, to and fro....

Yeeeeek!

This is another reason why I think the mom's of this world are the most underpaid and under appreciated folk in the world. Also, I think they could leave all those Navy Seals in the dust. Stamina, execution and prowess. Way to go!

One day in your shoes wears me out. Keep up the good work.

Why I Like Weather

This has been a very mild winter so far. With the exception of a cold week or two in early December we have been graced with a mild, even warm, winter. Christmas not only didn't have snow but felt more like Easter without buds on the trees. This warm weather makes me wonder if we are not going to have a long, hot, dry summer. I am not looking forward to that.

Rather than speculate the cause of this warmth I would rather comment on why the seasons are so important to us. The hard, harsh cold of winter gives way into the warm up of spring and the new life that comes forth. Spring gives into summer which is a productive time of year as the ground gives up its fruit in the garden and in the fields. It is remarkable to see how God makes these things happen. Weather reminds us that God is at work and that the rhythm of our lives is still dependent upon him. We can ill afford to leave him out of that equation.

The Christian Year is yet another way of recognizing God's pattern and work. It is a great way for us to model our lives after his life.

By the way, today it is getting colder, much colder. Thank God for the return of winter.
