Why I Like Weather

This has been a very mild winter so far. With the exception of a cold week or two in early December we have been graced with a mild, even warm, winter. Christmas not only didn't have snow but felt more like Easter without buds on the trees. This warm weather makes me wonder if we are not going to have a long, hot, dry summer. I am not looking forward to that.

Rather than speculate the cause of this warmth I would rather comment on why the seasons are so important to us. The hard, harsh cold of winter gives way into the warm up of spring and the new life that comes forth. Spring gives into summer which is a productive time of year as the ground gives up its fruit in the garden and in the fields. It is remarkable to see how God makes these things happen. Weather reminds us that God is at work and that the rhythm of our lives is still dependent upon him. We can ill afford to leave him out of that equation.

The Christian Year is yet another way of recognizing God's pattern and work. It is a great way for us to model our lives after his life.

By the way, today it is getting colder, much colder. Thank God for the return of winter.
